Founded in 1995 by fellow engineers Frank Grosch and Ralph Wolfrum, the company has come to focus on designing, building, fully installing and commissioning systems for flue gas purification and energy recovery. Our systems are being put to work not only in western and eastern Europe, but also in North America, Asia and Australia. Our technical team is made up of process technology engineers, fluid mechanical engineers and electrical engineers, as well as chemists, physicists, designers, technicians and draughtsmen, all of whom are experts in their field. It was founded in 1924 as a distributor of printing blankets, under the name Birkner & Kandlbinder OHG, with its own patent for Triumph rubber printing blankets ‒ revolutionary technology at the time. BIRKAN continues to enjoy success with its offset printing blankets, produced in-house and exported to over 100 countries worldwide. BIRKAN carries a comprehensive range of printing blankets to meet different quality requirements, suitable not only for common offset applications but also for specialised requirements in plastics, metal and intaglio printing. Our range also includes underpacking materials (sheets, foils, press boards and blankets) and measuring equipment. Our extensive inventory allows us to deliver promptly around the world. As a special service, BIRKAN also provides the option of a commissioning warehouse. A new branch of the company ‒ direct laser engraving ‒ is devoted to manufacturing elastomer printing plates.
